Raymond Azzopardi

Raymond Azzopardi (b. 1956, Malta) is a self-taught artist who specialises in wood sculpture. He began to draw at a very young age, but having always been surrounded by different types of wood, he went on to focus exclusively on wood sculpture in 1987.

1992 saw Raymond’s very first participation in a national exhibition, where he was the youngest among the artists featured. Since then, he has taken part in several local collective art exhibitions, in addition to having set up four solo exhibitions as well as participating in an international sculpture symposium in Sicily.

Raymond’s ideas are inspired from everyday life, and he is particularly intrigued by the subject of maternity – which he deems to be his favourite artistic theme.
