John Vassallo


John Vassallo (b. 1964, Malta) is a full-time ceramist at one of Malta’s leading potteries, with 28 years of experience in this skilled profession. Vassallo’s early training took place at Targa Gap, Malta under the guidance of artists Gianni Bonnici and Gabriel Caruana.

Throughout his career, Vassallo has worked on various private commissions in different media, ranging from stained glass and ceramics to cast concrete, welded metal and hard stone. In 2000, John was commissioned a large-scale cycle of sacred stained glass works for a religious centre in his hometown parish of Mosta.

John’s interests are varied and include ceramics, sculpture, drawing and printmaking. He has printed a number of original editions and is a regular participant in iMprint, the annual original printmakers’ exhibition held in Malta, since it was set up in 2004. His works can be found in local and international private collections.
